Luna + David’s Sydney Harbour Sunset Elopement at McKell Park

Luna and David’s wedding wasn’t built around a packed timeline or a long guest list. Instead, they gathered their favourite people for an intimate Sydney Harbour sunset elopement at McKell Park, choosing one of Sydney’s most peaceful harbour locations to celebrate in a way that felt very personal to them.

Their family and friends slowly arrived throughout the afternoon, where David greeted everyone as they made their way into the reserve. Nearby, the children curiously watched everything unfold while snacking on crisps and corn chips. It was a relaxed and playful atmosphere.

Before the ceremony began, a string trio filled the park with music, adding another gentle layer to an already beautiful afternoon.

An Intimate Sydney Harbour Ceremony at McKell Park

Perched above Sydney Harbour at Darling Point, McKell Park is one of those locations that quietly surprises people. Once part of a grand waterfront estate, it later became a public reserve and has grown into one of Sydney’s most beautiful spots for intimate ceremonies and elopements. While it’s only minutes from the CBD, the park feels remarkably peaceful once you’re there.

One of the things we love most about McKell Park is how it changes throughout the afternoon. The sandstone terraces begin to glow as the sun gets lower, the harbour reflects the changing colours of the sky, and the reserve remains surprisingly calm even as the city continues around it. It’s one of those rare Sydney locations where you can enjoy incredible harbour views without feeling like you’re in the middle of the city.

Andrea Caldolce from Weekday Wedded Bliss led the ceremony with her signature warmth, humour and calm presence. Facing Sydney Harbour, Luna and David exchanged vows as the afternoon drifted towards sunset.

Golden Hour Portraits Around Sydney Harbour

After the ceremony, we explored the reserve and the surrounding harbour paths for portraits. One of the biggest strengths of McKell Park is the variety it offers within such a small area. You can move from sandstone terraces to winding garden paths, open lawns, heritage staircases, waterfront lookouts and towering fig trees in just a few minutes. Each little pocket feels different, which means your gallery never feels repetitive, even though you’ve barely left the park.

As the afternoon slipped into golden hour, the light became the real star of the show. From McKell Park, the sunset lines up beautifully across the harbour, filling the reserve with warm light that reflects off the water and wraps softly around everything in front of it. It’s one of our favourite places in Sydney to photograph at sunset because the light changes constantly, giving every few minutes a completely different feel.

Once the sun disappeared below the horizon, we stayed out a little longer and played with a few flash portraits. The shift from soft natural light to bold evening flash created a completely different mood and added another layer to the story of the day.
