Ita + Randy’s Robertson Hotel Wedding in the Southern Highlands
Ita and Randy spent their wedding day at The Robertson Hotel, surrounded by family and close friends. The whole day carried the kind of atmosphere that settles naturally into the Southern Highlands during autumn.
Both got ready at the hotel, although in very different ways. Ita spent the morning with her sisters and best friend nearby. Meanwhile, Randy kept things quiet and got ready on his own. Before the ceremony, they came together for a tea ceremony honouring their parents, grandparents, and loved ones who had passed on. The moment felt thoughtful and deeply personal.
As a documentary wedding photographer in the Southern Highlands, we’re always drawn to weddings that leave space for moments like these.
A Rain-Soaked Ceremony at The Robertson Hotel
Set among sprawling gardens and heritage buildings, The Robertson Hotel has become one of the Southern Highlands’ most recognisable wedding venues. Originally built in the 1920s, the property is known for its old-world character, grand hallways, established gardens, and mountain air that seems to slow everything down a little.
The ceremony unfolded on the front lawn, with celebrant Ben Agar bringing his usual warmth and humour to the afternoon. Ita walked down the aisle with her father while guests gathered beneath grey-blue skies that looked ready to burst at any moment.
Rain started falling during the ring exchange. By the kiss, it poured. As Ita and Randy kissed, guests laughed and ran for cover beneath the shelter of the hotel.
Afterwards, everyone regrouped for congratulations, a champagne tower, and a full group photo before heading inside.
Autumn Portraits and a Packed Dance Floor
Portraits unfolded through the gardens of The Robertson Hotel, where autumn colours had fully settled in across the property. The deep reds, burnt oranges, and soft yellows worked beautifully against what Ita and Randy wore, giving everything a warmth that felt perfectly suited to the season.
One of the reasons couples are drawn to wedding portraits in the Southern Highlands is the way the landscape changes throughout the year. In autumn especially, the gardens around Robertson become layered with texture and colour, while the soft mountain light keeps everything feeling calm and grounded.
The reception was held inside the hotel dining room before guests gathered in the ballroom for cake cutting and dancing. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Ita and Randy chose a tiramisu cake that disappeared quickly once sliced. Soon after, they shared their first dance before friends and family filled the dance floor alongside them for the rest of the night.
By the end of the evening, the rain had long stopped mattering. The whole day felt relaxed, heartfelt, and full of movement.
