Coast – Boracay, Philippines | Honeymoon Location
The Coast in one of Boracay island’s newest and most chic hotels, part of the Raintree Group, and it was the last place we stayed at during our trip out in the Philippines.
Boracay is the type of island where there certainly is plenty of diversity to choose what type of accommodation and in which part of the island.
The Coast is located in Station 2 of the island, upon the beautiful sands of White Sand Beach. And when I say “upon the beautiful sands” that statement is to be taken lightly. The sand here is out of this world, smooth like butter and endless and this hotel is located upon the softest sand on the island.
When we spotted The Coast during our research of Boracay, we immediately knew it would be the ideal location to recommend to our couples as a honeymoon location. It’s modern, funky, features all the mod cons that the average person uses on a daily basis and has “just relax” written all of the venue.
The hotel features only 71 rooms, all revolving around three pools at the heart of the establishment.
Coast guests enjoy the added benefit of being picked up at the airport by one of their awesome team, driven from the Cataclan airport to the sea port in a private shuttle bus (complete with ice cold water and chill out music to immediately make you feel like you’re well and truly on your honeymoon adventure) where you are taken by speedboat from the mainland to Boracay island. This is a huge advantage when travelling to Boracay as the transfers from the airport to the island can get a little confusing on a first time travel and the staff at The Coast really take all this stress and pressure away from you. Not to mention you have a pretty amazing mode of transport to take you across the water to the hotel. All you and your fiance need to do is sit back after a long flight and enjoy the sea breeze in your hair. The honeymoon adventure starts very early on in this journey.
As with all the hotels that are located on White Beach, the shuttle from the port can take you the closest backstreet to your hotel, which is where you will hop out and take an incredibly short stroll over to the beach front hotel through a sand covered side street. Your driver with The Coast will organise for your luggage to be transferred to the hotel so you don’t need to worry about dragging it through the sand in the graceful humidity and heat.
Upon arrival at the hotel, you are greeted with the utmost friendliness from the staff. You are immediately greeted with a scented cold towel to press gentle across your face, shoulders and neck as you sit on one of their chairs. Whilst they process your checkin information, you sip on some ice cold water as they sneakily prepare you both a little refreshing mint mocktail. Pretty sure Bobby and I exchanged many excited glances between one another as we took in the incredible view right across from us, as the pristine turquoise ocean winked back at us.
You will both immediately notice the love and thought that has gone into designing this hotel from its wooden finishes, structured and clean lines, to the little pockets of light that seep through the criss cross designs of the walls.
One another thing we immediately noticed is that Coast takes its branding very seriously, but in a very light hearted and humorous way. With so many of our couples paying a close attention to detail during their whole wedding planning process, we know that the way Coast has marketed itself would strike a very positive chord with many of you.
All the staff have a clear and funky uniform, which is very upbeat and fresh, but the key thing we loved is that everyone has their role written on the back in witty ways, so you know exactly what everyone’s responsibilities are. For example, the staff dedicated to room service have “Neat Freak” written on the back of their tshirts, and the security have “like the mean in black only in white” written on them…very clever and conscious branding, which we loved.
When you are taken to your room, you walk past the pool area complete with guests relaxing on the sun beds with cocktails beside them, or sitting in the dip pool by the bar enjoying drinks and light snacks. When you walk into your room, if you haven’t already felt like the honeymoon has started, you certainly will now. The air is filled with a beautiful grapefruit scent, ambient music is playing and gifts are already waiting for you on the bed. The colour palette is crisp and clean, everything being swathed in neutral white with splashes of aqua to bring the ocean feel into your room. We stayed in the Premier Room which gave us ample of room to store our suitcases and move around effortlessly from the bedroom to the table to the bathroom. The tropical motif behind the bed is a beautiful touch, which ties back into that beautiful and tropical branding they have worked so wonderfully to create.
There’s so many little details in the room that immediately make you feel incredibly special and valued, but by the far the most impressive and had us grinning for a very long time was a special welcome sign on the Smart TV when we walked in, welcoming us to our stay at The Coast. They even went so far as to find our business logo and put it on there. Big smiles, from ear to ear on both our faces.
Before your Coast attendant leaves the room, they capture a quick snapshot of the two of you (grinning like big cheshire cats) next to the welcome tv screen. I’ll talk about this a little later, so don’t forget this little feature. Touche team Coast. This was the most beautiful touch to our entire stay. I should probably talk about it later, but let’s talk about it briefly now. Giving your guests something tangible to remember as they leave the island is a sure way for them to come back, again and again. Those check in smiles on our faces was captured and immortalised in a nice keepsake we shall keep on our fridge to look back fondly on.
All you honeymooners will be in for a treat at your stay at Coast. You will be greeted with a bottle of wine and cheese upon arrival along with a fresh fruit bowl, so you can take a moment to unwind and refuel slightly before adventuring out to explore more of the island or just to lay next to the pool or ocean.
They also feature Sealy beds, so you know you are going to get an excellent nights sleep. You have dim-able LED light switches conveniently next to the bed, so you don’t have to get up when you’re all cosy to turn the lights off.
Coast leaves you two complimentary bottles of mineral water every day and a little treat by your bed every evening with their nightly service. Each evening is different (and delectable) and they leave a little note and quote along with the treat. It’s little touches like these that make a huge difference of your experience of the stay.
On the bed you are greeted by two tote bags for you both to keep, along with green tea scented hand sanitizers and grapefruit scented cologne. Very clever thinking Team Coast. We couldn’t stop using these during our entire stay. The hand sanitizer is super handy when you are out wandering about exploring and want a quick spritz before eating, and the grapefruit scented cologne will always remind us of our time at Coast, and for all you honeymooners it will be the key scent that will always make you think of this incredible journey in your life as a married couple.
There’s also a little stash of ChocNut by the bed. If you haven’t tried these, they are amazing and very traditional to the Philippines. It’s made of literally chocolate, peanuts and sugar and is all levels of amazing. It’s placed right by the bed, so if either you get peckish at any point, you can just reach over and grab one out of the jar. They are like little delicate nuggets of heaven. And love is sweet, right? So it’s ok to indulge a little after the wedding ;)
The rooms also feature a coffee percolator (with their own special Coast blend of coffee) to brew in the morning or mid afternoon to enjoy with your sweet treat.
There’s a gym on site, so you can burn away any of those extra calories.
Each room comes with a great selection of purchasable nibbles and a pretty large safe for you to store your valuables.
Cha Cha’s is the open-air restaurant with the Coast, and it offers a breakfast buffet from 6.30am – 10am every day. They are also available for room service till midnight every night, which is pretty exciting for those of you that want to spend the day or the night in watching movies on Netflix via the Smart Tv that is featured in every one of the 71 rooms. Everything that is on their lunch, dinner, snacks and cocktail menu is also available on their room service menu. Pretty sure there will be many nightly calls to Cha Cha’s during those snuggly evenings in.
The breakfast buffet is a feast upon itself. The selections for the most part change daily, which helps keep up the excitement of what is to offer. You can grab a table indoors where it’s slightly cooler, or you can grab table outdoors overlooking the ocean. Either choice is a pretty good one and you cannot go wrong. Cha Cha’s breakfast buffet is famous for its take on the traditional Filipino dish of Champoradoo, which is a rich and decadent chocolate rice pudding served for breakfast. The twist at Cha Cha’s is that it’s made with ube, which is a purple yam. It gives the dish a vibrant purple colour and its texture and taste is delightful and creamy. If you are daring enough, you can eat the dish with fish, but we loved having it on its own. With selections from fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, doughnuts, cakes, an omelette station, eggs, shakshuka and breakfast pizza, you are truly spoiled for choice. They will also make coffee’s on request, and even have a bottle of cold brew on hand should you fancy the chilled variety of your caffeine hit before dipping into the pool or the ocean.
For those of you that want to venture into the pool or the ocean (and yes, you should) Coast staff will be on hand to supply you with fresh towels and ice water whenever you do. There’s an added treat here, the hotel even has Coast branded flip flops for you to use, in the bedroom, around the pool or by the ocean…wherever you desire! Our’s came in yellow, but they do have them in yellow too. Such a nice touch and another great keepsake to take away with you post honeymoon, for you to keep using once you return back home. The fine folk here have really thought of everything.
If you decide to dip into the ocean, Coast staff will pull up a bed for you by the water, and keep topping up your glass with ice cold water, even if you don’t order any food. I cannot stress how hard the staff here work, and we were so humbled and grateful for the experience.
At the end of the day, whether you’ve been to the ocean or exploring more of the island, there is a spacious and inviting rain shower waiting for you in your hotel room. There’s room in there for two people, because you know, we all need someone to scrub our back, right?! There’s even a little wooden seat to just sit on and chat to your partner whilst you are both in there. The bathroom amenities are subtly scented with passionfruit and replenished daily.
There is also a decent hairdryer stored conveniently under the sink, where is also amples of space to store your personal toiletries.
Attached to Coast is a General Store. It features a lot of the touches you see in your hotel room and around the hotel, and much more. It’s a great way to buy little toiletries and trinkets that remind you of your honeymoon, to either keep for yourselves or to share the love with your friends and family at home. Everything is for the most part locally made, which makes all the difference.
The hotel is also in the process of finishing a spa for the guests to enjoy a little bit of relaxing indulgence at, and also a rooftop bar that will sell rum specialties amongst other things, overlooking the ocean.
There is so much to love at this hotel. It’s the new kid on the block but making waves in terms of what it offers and it’s very own unique style. There is so much about the little features, such as the flowers in the bathroom, the Smart Tv for all us tech-heads to still keep up with our movies and shows even when we are away, to the amazing staff on hand here. One of the amazing staff at Coast even offered to deliver our postcard to the post office on her way home. Sarah Cepe was the Guest Relations Manager on site every day and we couldn’t be grateful enough to her and her team. And let’s not forget that one time we were looking for something specific to buy from a tech store and Sarah organised for a private driver for us to take us directly there…amazing. We shall not forget your kindness and helpfulness any time soon. Sarah and Randy Salvadore (General Manager) and Erika (Food and Beverage Manager at Cha Cha’s) really keep afloat a tight ship of smiling faces and incredible attention to detail.
All you honeymooners will be in for a treat when visiting Boracay and staying at Coast. We even mentioned in passing to Sarah how much we loved the the ChocNuts in the room and the next thing we knew is that there was a packet of them waiting for us on the bed along with a handwritten note from Sarah for us to enjoy the treat on our last night on the island. I couldn’t be more thrilled to recommend a more stellar place to our couples to honeymoon. It’s a brilliant and luxurious way to start off your married journey together. Every single one of the Coast team was amazing and it felt that they went above and beyond.
And that photo that they took of us when they initially introduced us to our room – it’s actually printed by the team and given to you as a gift when you leave. When we talk about next level of service, this is it. If you haven’t taken enough photos during the stay of your honeymoon, this is just they cherry on the cake, a little something to remember your beaming faces when you first arrived. High fives team Coast, giving your guests something tangible to remember as they leave the island is a sure way for them to come back.
If you are looking for a place that is literally a step away from crystal clear water and still has a lot of the modern flare and beauty to the architecture of the hotel, don’t overlook the opportunity to stay at this rising star of a venue. Boracay is a beautiful destination to celebrate your honeymoon. Be kind to the locals, be kind to the natural beauty of the island and immerse yourself in everything good the Coast has to offer you.
